McLaren F1 GTR | Race Car
McLaren F1 GTR Illustrations
McLaren is the first car company to have set out to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and win outright on their first attempt. An astonishing feat considering that the McLaren F1 was a road car that the designer, Gordon Murray, did not intend to be a race car. Gordon Murray is synonymous with racing successes, creating championship-winning Formula 1 race cars, designing for Brabham from 1973 to 1986, and is known for the infamous ‘fan car.’ It won the first time out and was subsequently banned for being ‘too good!” Murray then moved on to McLaren in 1987 and two years later his Honda-powered McLaren won 15 out of 16 races and gave Ayrton Senna his first driver’s championship. From 1991 – to 2004, Murray was the head of McLaren Cars and designed the Company’s first project, the McLaren F1 Road Car, and the eventual racing version, the GTR that dominated the GT1 class in the 90s. This fantastic exotic car and the race car inspire the illustrations you will see here. The 1995 Le Mans winner and the 4 finishers, were followed by the McLaren F1 LM which celebrated the Maiden Voyage win at Le Sarthe.
